Blue Ribbon Tetra (Hyphessobrycon sp.)

Blue Ribbon Tetra (Hyphessobrycon sp.)

Remarks: Blue ribbon tetras (Hyphessobrycon sp.) are closely related to H. melanostichos, and are relatively new to the hobby. One of the main differences between the two fish are blue ribbon tetras have a broader lateral line and lack any red in the caudal fin. This navy stripe is bordered by an iridescence that shines in many colors depending on the light angle, but you can clearly see the entire color spectrum of red, orange, yellow, green, and blue in this fish. It is truly a sight to behold.

This species is very active and will require a tank at least 24" wide. Height is no matter to these fish as they spend most of their time swimming above the substrate level. Males will approach each other and spastically display their fins, swimming in a quick circle around one another. They will quickly dart off after the display ends.
